Mature Texan Magazine was created by a native Texan who appreciates North Texas’ senior community.

The youngest of five children, I grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and began volunteering at senior centers with my mother, Eloisa, at the age of 5.  At 29, after attending college, I became a massage therapist and developed an interest in performing geriatric massage for seniors.  After coordinating several weekend classes for massage therapists, I obtained the knowledge, understanding and benefits of geriatric massage.  I continued to volunteer my services to seniors to comfort them during hospice, after they suffered from a stroke or simply to give them a sense of touch through therapy.

After returning to school, I became an herbalist in order to help seniors find alternative methods for health care.  I compiled information on food, health, life and money for several communities and made colorful booklets and delivered them to properties across North Texas.  Shortly after beginning this project, I began receiving phone calls requesting that I come speak to groups of seniors.  I had asked the Lord, You have taken away my staff for geriatric massage because of no funds for supplies or labor. You have given me many talents, what is it that you need me to do?  The next morning, I found my answer in Mature Texan Magazine and set out to create it.

I share this story with each of you in order to communicate the heart that goes into crafting this publication.  For me and my staff, this job is far more than simply writing and laying out facts about senior issues; rather, it fills us with a sense of pride to be able to give back to individuals who have spent their lives paving the path for many of us.

I have a vested personal interest in our readers and advertisers and I know that I, too, will grow older but will remain young at heart through my work with Mature Texan.  I hope that the more I grow in mind, body and spirit as a Mature Texan that each of you grow with me.

To date, I have been honored to work with Governor Rick Perry and his wife, Anita, senators of North Texas, Doc Gallagher, Mayor Mike Moncrief, Mayor Charles England and Mayor Tom Leppert.  I have enjoyed serving on many community boards, hosting a local television show, and volunteering at and leading a number of community events.  It has also been a blessing to work with each of our advertisers and as a team, we create Mature Texan Magazine.   I thank all of our advertisers for helping to make Mature Texan the publication for caregivers and seniors of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
